Returning Officials

Please note that all officials must re-certify every year.

Your certification for the 2022/23 season expires Dec 31/22 and you will be unable to officiate after that date without re-certification. Returning officials must register for a returning official clinic with BC Hockey.  The clinics will be posted on the BC Hockey website as they become available.

If you are 15 years or younger, you need to register in a level 1 returning clinic and if you are 16 years (as of Dec 31st, 2022) or older you need to register in a level 2 returning clinic.

To assist with the recruitment and retention of officials, all officiating fees are reduced to $5 plus Participant Assessment Fee (Insurance) if applicable.

All officials over 17 years of age MUST have a Valid Criminal Record Check completed and on file with Hockey Canada before being able to register for a clinic. As this process can take a couple of weeks, it is recommended to complete this as soon as possible.

All 2022-23 Re-certification clinics for ‘returning’ officials will be “in person” and be available for registration in August/September 2022, with clinics across the lower mainland occurring from mid September until late November.

Any returning officials that were NOT registered during the 2022-23 season will be required to attend a certification clinic before they are eligible to officiate. Please contact the Referee In Chief to let us know you are returning so we can assist in expediting the process.

If you are an official that has not certified for a number of years and are unable to register for a Returning Officials clinic, you will need to contact BC Hockey. You may be required to take the new officials clinic and the required on line module due to the number of rule changes since you last certified.

The following is applicable to both NEW and RETURNING Officials.

As of May 15th, 2021 eHockey has been retired.

eHockey functionality will now be located at its new home inside HCR 3.0 as of June 1st, 2021.

 

Becoming a New Official

 

 

Anyone over the age of 11 before December 31st 2022 is eligible to become an official.

New officials must first register and complete an online module. You need to register though your Hockey Canada (HCR) profile.

refassignor@aldergroveminorhockey.com and I will advise you on Aldergrove specific New Official clinic to register for in Step 3 when available.

Level 1 new official (11 thru 16 years of age) is for all new officials under the age of 16. New Adults and players over 16 years of age are to take the New Official Level 2 clinic (not the Returning Official clinic). New official clinic dates will be posted once known. Adults wishing to become an official are required to complete a Criminal Record Check (CRC) with BC Hockey through the officiating links (if one is not completed as a team official through AMHA - you can see this on your Hockey Canada Profile Account) and when registering for the New Official Clinic pay the Participant Assessment Fee (Insurance) if you are not a team official. Please contact myself to determine if you require the Participant Assessment Fee if you are not sure.
